Startup Story-Chelpis Uses Blockchain to Create Shared Space and Information Security Independence

Ming-Yang Chih, the Founder and CEO of Chelpis Co., Ltd., was engaged in cryptography when he was studying at the Graduate Institute of Electrical Engineering, National Taiwan University and working at Quanta Research Institute. In 2014, he began to involve in a number of innovative projects, including travel apps, smart homes, and electric mopeds, successfully participated in crowdfunding, and was selected as a member of the AppWork startup team.


Foreseeing the market opportunities of blockchain as well as digital asset security and the demand in shared space management, Ming-Yang Chih convened a group of his friends to establish Chelpis in 2017, which is based on the core technology of blockchain, cryptography, and IoT (Internet of Things). Through the construction of advanced cryptographic libraries, an advanced operating system for digital asset security and shared space management is provided.

Podrick Space Passport, Making Multiple Shared Spaces Available


The "Podrick Comes to Help Shared Space Management" is launched first in the Startup Terrace Linkou. It not only offers services such as membership; access control; payment and coupon points, but also integrates the blockchain based space management for the first time. The authorized users can use the APP to book meeting rooms, and manage the modules through notification, making the real-time space resources clear at a glance.


"As human resources become less and less, customers will only rely more on technology in the future. Podrick can help business operators save 80% of customer service manpower." Ming-Yang Chih said that Podrick is like a "space passport". Through the IoT services, multiple office spaces can be linked.


"To allow more spaces to join our shared office alliance, we adopt a highly secure membership authentication, and provide blockchain technology to exchange considerations with customers. In addition, blockchain can act as a ledger to confirm the authenticity of every transaction.”


Initially, Ming-Yang Chih, will focus on the collaboration with large office spaces and venues. For the long term, he plans to allow more spaces to be linked via the "light implementation" program. "If the users are members of the Startup Terrace Linkou, they can have the access to shared spaces such as gym or sports arena which have been authorized by the “light implementation” program, thereby, extending the benefits of spaces."


Cold Wallet Patent Protects Digital Assets from Leakage


In the era of cryptocurrency, transaction records and balances of virtual currency are mostly stored on the blockchain, and the password for opening virtual currency transactions, the "key", is stored in the "Cold Wallet". The "KelvinWallet" cold wallet based on Chelpis's patented cryptographic algorithm can safeguard the password characters stored in the communication software and digital assets once the identity is bound, achieving "point-to-point" encryption protection; even if it is attacked by hackers, the communication record and sensitive assets can be protected to to prevent information tampering or leakage.


"I often jokingly say that people who make software nowadays are beginning to develop hardware; and those who make hardware are switching to cardless." Ming-Yang Chih said that no matter it is in USB format or a physical card, once the cold wallet is bound to the user identity, it only "recognizes the card rather than the identity of the user." On the other hand, for the "hot wallet" which is stored in devices such as a mobile phone or computer that can be connected to the Internet, once the password is cracked, its uniqueness cannot be guaranteed.


Chelpis's cryptography technology unleashes its benefits by embedding different "cold wallet" carriers; with the lightweight hardware security module (HSM) system, a secure signing system was developed to help product companies release safe signature authorization.


EID Identity Authorization Boosts Taiwan's Information Security Independence


Ming-Yang Chih believes that both pure online banking and future digital ID cards can be verified by using cryptography. "The government currently uses the "Citizen Digital Certificate" for most digital identities. However, such technology is unable to be implemented on mobile phones. In addition, the certificate still relies on system compatibility or the reading of the card by a card reader, not to mention that the card will wear out over time. In contrast, our technology is capable of performing mobile phone authorization and multi-person authorization, truly entering the scope of new-generation identity card EID."


Through the recommendation of Amazon AWS, Chelpis stationed in the Startup Terrace Linkou to provide solutions for the cloud management system. It has also conducted resource connection or business match-making with organizations such as the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the Institute for Information Industry, and TCA. Through technological innovation and remote collaboration, the autonomous information security services in Taiwan have been improved.
